Yes I think you’re right and it will be a complicated tariff of when we can or cannot charge the batteries up, or it will be like some third world country with loads of generators running. Laughing

On the whole, solar and storage are nearly twice the cost in Australia compared the price of similar products in the UK. However Australia does get more sunshine, so the payback times are comparable.

My solar panels are rated at 3.78kW, however the inverter is rated at 3.6kW, so that's effectively the maximum output. I've seen just under 26kWhr in one day this summer, which hasn't been a good one for solar so far.
On a good summer, I should see over 500kWhr per month, but that's not happened this summer yet. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE. Gone.
Audi A5 convertible, my daily driver.

Jaguar I-Pace Recall H484 - Battery Fire

Jaguar have issued a recall on some 264 I-Paces from around 2019 MY.

They will either change the Traction Battery or buy the car back.

Fire risk meant that owners have been advised to keep the car away from house.

Jaguar I-Pace Recall H441 - Battery Fire - North America

Once you start looking, it would appear that the Jaguar I-Pace Battery Problem may effect more cars than indicated in Recall H484.

The USA seems to have more stringent rules regarding Recalls, it might be worth checking your EV Car Model for recalls in North America. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I've not gone for a battery, as it doesn't make financial sense. We're now on an EV tariff, which means very cheap electricity between 12 and 7am. The solar takes over in the daytime, so offsetting the slightly higher electricity charge between 7am an 12 midnight. I also get paid for my excess generation in sent to the grid, so a battery wouldn't be worth quite so much as it would to someone who isn't on an EV tariff. Although I guess I could charge the battery on the EV tariff, and use the energy when it's expensive? Something for me to think about.

I think we may be on the same tarrif
I have solar and battery I charge the battery overnight on the cheap rate and export as much solar as possible as they pay just over double for my export as I pay them on the cheap overnight rate
This also means I get cheap rate electricity all day every day even if the sun doesn't shine
So the bills for electricity this year are running about £20 a month that's with an EV Doing 18k miles a year home charged and the running of a 3 bed semi
If the standing charge hadn't gone up so much I would be running without a bill I suspect

I am with octopus on the go intelligent tarrif for electricity
And export is outgoing octopus 12month fixed

You need a car or charger that they can control the charging of to access this tarrif and what they do when you plug in is create a charge plan in 30 min slots you just tell them when it wants to be ready for
If it decides it wants or needs to charge outside the the normal cheap window you will also get that slot at cheap rate nit just for the car but all consumption

It's not for everyone but it works for me

I'm with Eon Next, on their V4 tariff.
6.7 Pence 00:00 to 07:00, and 24.41P for the remaining 17 hours, with 68 odd Pence daily charge.

I've not got a home battery at the moment, but it's something I plan on adding when funds allow.

We needed a new car, and a deal came up on the Ioniq 5, which made it cheaper to lease than a similar sized ICE vehicle, so that took priority over a home battery. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
