water expansion tank removal

Hi people can anyone tell me how to remove the water expansion tank on a landrover freelander2 it looks pretty straight forward but the bracket that holds the bottle on is not budging. after taking out the bolt i thought it would slide up the bracket but there is only a little play up and down, does it clip in somehow. the cap was broke and the middle bit is stuck fast tried pulling twisting , screws inserted and twisted but still stuck.i thought if i get the whole thing out i might have a better chance at removing the insides of the cap.

thanks.

I had this problem but was able to use two large eye screws and a large screwdriver put through the eyes to get the cap out.

The original cause in my case was tracked down to a small coolant leak at the thermostat housing gasket causing a vacuum in the coolant system on cooling down.

To get the tank out you may have to gently prise the mental clip with a screwdriver

I find mental clips are better attacked with a BFH 🤣 Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

There is a video on youtube with exactly this solution to the broken cap. Jules
