United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 Sport Manual Indus Silver
Tailgate closure problems.

Hi,
The tailgate on my freelander sport is driving me crazy. It began to need slamming instead of just shutting in order for the rear window to slide back up to its fully closed position. This progressed to having to be lifted at the latch end whilst being slammed and now it won’t slide back up at all.
My independent specialist having played with latch sensors (changed) and I believe changed the latch itself as well as trying to align the latch components very carefully (which did on every occasion improve matters for a short time) has basically given up.
Any ideas?
Is it an alignment problem at the hinge end of the door?

Yep our Freelander 2 rear windows don't slide up and down. 👍 Might be a few on here with both FL1 & 2 or have owned a FL1 previously that could assist but you'd get better response on a dedicated forum or Facebook page. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Zermatt Silver

I had this issue back in 2000 with my original Freelander.
I had to replace the complete mechanism inside the door. At the time the car was new and spares were hard to come by. I had to remove the door card, shut the door and hold the glass up with some wood, just so I could use the car.
Took a couple of weeks for the dealer to source the parts. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

We had four FL1s - the lowering rear window was quite useful for transporting long things, like ladders.

The only major thing we had go wrong was the IRD unit on one of them - which was replaced under warranty. Jules

if the latch and sensors have been changed as you say, and the alignment checked etc then it may well need a new mechanism completely

you have to remember that the FL1 was last produced almost 20 years ago so things will bound to be ageing
