Side lights

I would like to use my side lights as DRL that are switched on when the ignition is on but I believe that the light switch uses the bus to control the switching so can I use a relay to switch the appropriate contacts ?
Not too clear perhaps but if someone has info please let me know.

There was a guy, some years ago, who fitted DRL's in the front lights, using HALO leds.

see the yellowish rings around the lower bumper lights.

Also ......

you can more easily fit DRL lights to the rear cluster

remove the rear lamp cluster. Inspect the 'blanked' off area behind where the DRLs are fitted for other markets. Drill out blanks, file out the bulb holder and insert 5W bulb.

Thanks all,

Dave47, I want to automate what you do, turning them off would be my problem.

A pin out of the light switch if any one has one would be useful.

I have seen these on his website but I am hopeing to achieve a low cost option using the existing side lights, I believe the feature I want is easy to achieve if you have a software tool to do it, which I don’t and so loking to do it another way.

The issue you have is side lights aren't designed for a vehicle in motion. They are actually parking marker lights, so aren't supposed to be on when driving, unless used in combination with other front lights like headlamps or fog lights.
As far as I'm aware, there's no programming option to put side lights on automatically, as that's not legal.

The only legal option would be to activate Canadian mode, which puts the dip beams on all the time the engine is running. This is fine, but you'll be going through headlamp bulbs at an alarming rate.
The cheapest and legal long term option is to use the kit listed above, as it has additional functionality like DLRs staying on for 30 seconds to illuminate the driveway at night, and the DRL turns off on the side that the indicator is active, and the DRLs dim at night to prevent glare. They are basically fully automatic in operation, and only need a few connections to the vehicle wiring. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
