Windscreen chip repair

Got a chip in the screen today from some Censored driving too fast on a newly surfaced road.
Has anyone tried the chip repair thing firms like Autoglass do? Is it any good?
I know it doesn't guarantee that the chip/crack won't spread so is it just a cosmetic thing?
How much does it cost?

Cheers

I have had quite a deep chip in mine for about 4 months but as it's not cracked, I have left it alone.
Autoglass advertise free repair (usually) and I hear it is almost undetectable. Trouble is I just know mine will be the one that's chargable and all the while it's not spreading, I think I will leave it alone. FL2 TD4 XS Santorini

On my first windscreen I had 2 done and you could not see them

my last one it started to crack slightly so it's 99% gone

they will tell you if it's not repairable but might have a go anyway if it's border line Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

My LR dealer (the only one left in Luxembourg after Ford left LR) told me the windscreen has to be replaced completely. The crack was too deep to get it repaired by Carglas...

The windscreen with heater and rain sensor was replaced last Wednesday and did cost: 896 Euro!!!! Shocked

I'm glad my insurance is taking care off! Thumbs Up Freelander 2 SE 4Td Izmir Blue, Dog cage for Alaskan Malamute, iphone Navigon Navigator

I've had a small chip filled recently. Also had same in my first FL2. They warn you that when they start they need to "open up" the hole to get resin in. This may cause the crack to open which will mean new screen and excess to pay. Mine was fine. Repair is G'teed for as long as you have the car so if it cracks from the chip after repair you get a new screen FOC!

Some insurance Co now charge £10 for chip repairs so best check your policy before letting anyone fiddle with yours!

Have you got a chip, immediately set sellotape over so that the dirt and moisture is kept away, this facilitate a perfect repair. LR Freelander2 2,2 Td4 HSE manuel Stornaway Grey (Metallic) & Ebony Black Leather & Sun/Moon-roof & Bi-Xenon & Roof Rails & Tow bar & Body side rubbing strips & Cold climate pack & Privacy glass & NavTeq . I actually had a chip repaired by Autoglass last week. They did a first class job as well. It was at a stall in the carpark of a local shopping centre so I just turned up with my Insurance certificate and they did the rest. Currently no charge with Norwich Union but the chap did say that he thought that may be changing with new policies being taken out now.

I once got some circular stick on disc to place over a chip to keep it clean and hopefully prevent the cracks stretching out any further

HI,

I used Autoglass a couple of years ago when I picked up a deep chip on the Range Rover. It worked well and almost invisible. They took care of the cost through the insurance company with no problems. Can recommend.

My windscreen was chipped last week by a guy mowing the verge outside his house on a ride on mower which threw up stones that chipped the screen in 2 places.
I spoke to him about it and he was quite concerned and asked that my insurance company send him the invoice and he would claim on his household policy.
Contacted Land Rover Insurance (Royal Sun Alliance) and they said it was not worth the trouble of claiming for a windscreen from a third party. What about my £60.00 excess says I. You will have to claim from the third party yourself says they.
I did and he was delighted that it was only £60.00 and sent me a cheque.
However LR said I had to have the screen repaired as it was only a chip so Autoglass came out and carried out a repair which cost LR £80.00 and was totally unacceptable even to the extent that the Autoglass technician wrote in the remarks box of the invoice "Screen repaired satisfactorily (ie will not leak or develop a crack) but customer may wish to have a new screen".
The repair had left a halo mark the size of a 10 pence right in the line of vision so I contacted LR Insurance again and the answer was "If you are not happy we will fit a new screen".
Autoglass came out next day and fitted a new screen which as it is heated and has rain and light sensors came to £480.00 UK Technician was very smartly dressed, polite and did a good job.

Had mine done by Autoglass.
You can still see the spider cracks a bit but it feels sealed from the outside now so fingers crossed.
Had it done free on ins as suggested so cheers for replies Thumbs Up
