More information would help. eg mileage / service history. For a start I'd change the ATF in the autobox - it can make a huge difference to the way it changes gear. JLR dont change the ATF until 150K miles or 10 years by which time the autobox is often FUBAR and then you need a new gearbox. Preventative maintenance is not a JLR strong point IMO. Personally I wouldnt go to a LR main dealer - they will charge a lot for something that requires no specialist knowledge - eg changing ATF.

Whatever the badge on the bonnet says your Freelander isn’t a Land Rover. The engine, gearbox transmission and Haldex are all used by other manufacturers and the car was designed by Ford. |

I think that having a full transmission check and oil/filter change would be a good idea as it would bring you peace of mind, and also cure what sounds like an autobox problem. Choose a local garage that you can trust that deals with the haldex type 4x4 transmissions. It may be worth your while contacting Bell Engineering who are good. https://www.bellengineering.co.uk/fault-symptoms https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic38850.html?highlight=bell Going to a Main LR Dealer for a 10 year service (Transmission Oil Changes) will cost at least £1k and may not do internal filters. I am sure Bell Engineering will if you contact them for advice and maintenance. (please note that I am running my FL2 the 'expensive' way and have Main Dealer services, and pay for an Extended Warranty to take the risk out of Breakdowns and Hire Cars --- so far an new Diff, and maintenance of the Turbo Variable Vanes -- FOC--) FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011) FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015) Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History (Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?) |
