United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Biscay Blue
Muddy Weekender 2024

Hi all. For all those wondering "what is Muddy Weekender?" let me explain. Some of you might of heard about the company MuddyMods (https://www.muddymods.com/) that offer a range of modifications mainly for the Freelander 1 and 2 and Range Rover Evoque. They have a group on Facebook called Muddy Freelander (https://www.facebook.com/groups/MuddyFreelander). Every year, Warren and Chell who run MuddyMods, host Muddy Weekender at the Billing off road course (the same courses that the Billing Off Road Show use).

For the 3rd year running, Alana and I was there putting our Freelander 2 through its paces and to film as much of the fun that we could from the weekend. Very Happy So if you enjoy seeing Freelander's being used off road then maybe you might enjoy the following videos from the weekend.

First off here's a highlights video of some of the best bits from the weekend:

If you enjoyed that video or you just want to see all of Saturdays action, you can find that video here:

Sundays action:

An onboard view of a tour around the lakeside course with Michael behind:

As an experiment, I was also filming the same video as above on Alana's phone which is capable to recording at 8K! Shocked So if you have an 8K device, or a cinema, feel free to let me know how it looks. Laughing

There are further videos to come including all of Sundays action which I will update this post when that video goes live. Smile https://www.youtube.com/@scottandalana4x4

From a technical perspective, this has to be my favourite video to produce to date. Some of you might recognise Michael's car that is following closely behind as him and his car have featured in various Land Rover magazines. If anyone wants to know more about his car, let me know Smile .

I had this video idea planned in my head of doing an onboard drive around the Lakeside course of Billings off road course, but knew the rear view would be a bit featureless without anyone behind us. So we borrowed Michael to drive around behind to give a visual idea of what our car is doing. What we didn't expect is how close Michael would be able to keep behind us and also that Michael had his camera with him so we could get a 4th perspective!

The reason that this is my favourite video from a technical perspective is that, very rarely do the ideas in my head translate quite as well into reality. But also, that it involves 3x 4K video streams, 1x 1080p phone video stream and separate video streams for each of the dials in the in-car view. I think it took just over a day to sync and edit the video, then about 6 to 8 hours just exporting the video and then another 3 to 4 hours to upload the finished video file to YouTube.

Lastly, if you don't like the 4 way split of videos, skip through as each view has their own individual part in the video, hence the length of it Very Happy .

Incase anyone has an 8K display...or a cinema capable of 8K Laughing , at the same time that I was filming the above video, I had Alana's phone recording. Her phone can record at 8K at 24fps. So for a fun project I did exactly that and my poor laptop spent 8 hours slowly exporting this at a grand speed of about 2 - 3 fps Very Happy .
