I have been lucky in that I have worked and lived near people the same as me and we have given each other a lift to work if their car was off the road. Never the same as having your own car as fitting in with other people.

My Peugeot 504 was 25 years old, I owned it 18 years. About 265,000 km, odometer failed at 250,000km. It was more to the point I couldn't be bothered any more.
After 18 years I owned it, what was coming up for registration next year, apart from brakes (easy to do the pads yourself including getting them reshoed), clutch slave cylinder... & a bit more rust. (other areas previously cut out & patched in welded sections, including under the windscreen left & right corners, pushing out the glass with feet... trying to avoid sitting on gear stick. No damage at the front... or back so to speak! & put back in the windscreen myself). I only did/had all these repairs done as it was simply economical.
These days a fuse blows... car is written off!
Seat Ibiza 18 years from new (so the Peugeot 504 is ahead at 25 years old), also about 265,000 km, also odometer died at 250,000 km. My mechanic wanted the car, in principle it was, simply give it to him & I have no issues to this day.
The Freelander couldn't be more happier with. But I am at the age where I couldn't be stuffed fixing it myself, I will simply buy a new car wheelchair*... 46 years later (very slight overlap of cars)... MY odometer couldn't be stuffed!

Nothing to do this morning so took the bumper and a few bits off.
Easy peasy - nothing was rusted up. Good ol' Waxoyl
