HILL DESCENT CONTROL IN REVERSE ?

HELLO!

I have just acquired a 2014 FL2 SD4 SE AUTO.

To park at home, I must back up a steep drive between other vehicles and thus must maintain full control. My Discos, my 90 and my MG all handle this sedately but with the Freelander, the power seems to surge in and makes for a very hairy process !

Has anybody else found this and if so how is it best to proceed ?

I wondered if you could use the Hill Descent in Reverse gear ?

Any advice would be thankfully received and faithfully applied!

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Rimini Red

HDC works in reverse. However the minimum speed is something like 5MPH, which is fast in a small area. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

After driving SD4 FL2s for about 12 years I still find manoeuvring in tight spaces on inclines very difficult.

Once the upward slope is more than the natural 'creep' can handle, then the power delivery is a bit sudden and overwhelming.

Also the Power/Torque available seems enough to plough through the house wall.

I'm alright on the flat, but look forward to someone telling me how to get into small sloping spaces without demolishing my town seafront.

Downhill is easy by feathering the brakes, and HDC is only necessary if it is very slippery and you want the wheel brakes to automatically control speed independently. It works very well forward and backwards on steep slopes. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)

Have you tried using the Terrain Response button??

Selecting Grass/Gravel/Snow setting calms things down a bit
