We installed 3 phase to the garage in 2016 for, to be honest, possible car charging in the future (now next vehicle will most likely be a wheelchair). It was a small part of an electrical upgrade of our block of units. $500 for 25 metre run from the meter. Obviously still got the Freelander... it will be very hard to replace when the day comes!

Anyway. There seems to be more insurance issues of EVs when they are housed within main building structure.

Not only that, there are more issues with all lithium "vehicles". We are looking at warnings signs in our block of units that any lithium charging has to be supervised while charging, as per advice.

It's probably a bit of "covering your bum" stuff, another one of those things at the very least we feel needs to be taken onboard.

It did all seem to be far simpler decades ago.

Sounds like the building administration are spending too much time believing social media and not the facts. In reality, an ICE vehicle is something like 100 X more likely to catch fire than a BEV.

There have been loads of in depth studies, including one of the Australian fire developments. They've all come to the conclusion that a BEV is many times less likely to catch fire, than an equivalent ICE vehicle.
Ask yourself, how often has your laptop or smartphone spontaneously burst into flames? Going by the misinformation, they all should, because the batteries are basically the same as a BEV.

The issue with EV fires is they can be difficult to put out, but this is primarily confined to NMC battery packs, where the electrolyte is basically alcohol.
This issue will eventually become less of a problem once better battery chemistries come along, there's already cars with LFP batteries, which don't burn, they just vent the non combustible electrolyte away. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Gone.
2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE. Gone.
Audi A5 convertible, my daily driver.
1972 Hillman Avenger GT, the project.

With the announcement of the big green push, how much do we think that our road tax is going up by next budget. An extra £30 to £50 I think would be a good bet.

With the new anti-car Labour government I think we will be pleased if road tax goes up by only £30 to £50.

Any one want to open a book on how much extra tax they will put on fuel.

I think you are probably right. The amount of miles we do every year makes it very expensive price per mile. We have had a few conversations about should we swap motors but the trouble is the freelander is worth very little now as seen at the auction, but is still running and does the job of towing the caravan.

We are running a Fiesta ST3 and the FL2. The combined insurance, MOT and VED (£1200) is likely to be less than any equivalent new or nearly new cars. Their depreciation is low now. We only do 12K miles a year in total, so replacing them even with more fuel efficient cars makes little financial sense.
So we'll keep them running for as long as we can. Jules

Sounds similar to us. It’s on the insurance for 6000 a year but we don’t do near that. Hopefully it’s that low enough value that it doesn’t attract being nicked, as you say depreciation is low so can not be worth much less.
