PO299 Turbocharger Underboost

Evening all!
My car has been doing a weird hesitation/lurchy thing at about 1750rpm under low throttle input. I plugged it in this morning as it threw up the engine light. The code was PO299.
She's a 2010 manual, 129k miles, full service history.
What should I be checking before buying a recon turbo?

May be this ...

The variable turbo vanes can get stuck up and the electric actuator can fail.

JLR workshop says to disconnect the actuator arm and move the vanes through their full movement range until free and then lubricate the actuator arm and then reconnect.

Page 1024 onwards. (download FOC from this forum)

DO NOT move the vanes with the actuator arm still connected - you'll break the actuator motor (I presume its a worm gear and so can only handle torque in one direction) Jules

Moving the actuator arm isn't a remove the turbo job, can be done in place with some swearing.

There's also the Mr Muscle clean out technique to get into the vanes to dissolve the carbon and gunk.... also in situ.

As said, moving the actuator arm can be done with much swearing without removing the turbo. Even more swearing occurs if you lose the circlip that holds the actuator to the arm! Make sure that you do the work on a nice clear surface so you can see where the clip goes.

Classic lost boost pressure code, so it'll be a leak in the boost hoses somewhere.
It's extremely unlikely to be the turbo, and a replacement turbo isn't plug n play anyway. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

If it was just a hose would it still cause the weird, jerky mis-fire feeling?

Yes, anything that causes running outside of the tight parameters these engines run at can cause strange running issues. It's better to replace all the hose before going down the turbo route, as the hoses are known to fail. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Does anyone make a complete set of inlet, turbo and intercooler pipes? LR items are a tad pricey Big Cry

P0299 Errors that have occurred on this FL2 Site have all been Air Intake Path problems, that is with Hoses, EGR, TURBO and/or ACTUATOR. (or even a sensor failure in one case)

Have a good look for splits, loose connections, sticking actuator, etc before diving in a changing things.
From what I read small splits are very hard to spot.

I am sure that major failures should have given 'Limp Home' Mode and more Error Codes.

Handy to know. She's not done the restricted performance thing yet. She still pulls well if I floor it, just jerks about under minimal throttle input.

If no 'Limp Home' mode then best to follow Nodge's advice as the symptoms are similar to the 'old fashioned' mixture control being wrong.

Therefore --- air leak or sensor? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)

I'll take a look at all the hoses this weekend, I can get it in to my local garage end of next t week if needs be.
