correct.

The FL2 has mechanical lift pump in the high pressure fuel pump that sucks the fuel out of the fuel tank through the fuel filter. It is driven from the camshaft. so it wont work unless the engine is turning over.

The electrical pump inside the fuel tank is solely to even out the fuel level in the saddle fuel tank. It does NOT supply fuel to the engine. Jules

Well, I've just done my first fuel filter change.

I used Alex's advice on which port to bleed and bought a Clarke syphon pump for it.

I was distressed to see air continuing to come through even after I'd pulled through 15 litres!

Does diesel have a soapy, bubbly look anyway which can be confused with air?

I reconnected then bled from the final outlet and despite not seeming totally bubble-free it was harder to pump and I reconnected and tried it.

Fired up first time and I kept it at about 2000 rpm for a couple of minutes, shut down, waited and restarted with no problem.

I think I'll be nervous next time as well. Still don't understand why there was so much air/froth in the lines. One vid I watched told me to release the fuel filler cap but I'm wondering if that was wrong advice and that a vacuum would have stopped the fuel draining back into the tank.

Can anyone advise where I can get some of these white plugs which are featured in the helpful Haynes video? My Bosch filter only provided the red one for the incoming fuel. Freelander 2 2010 [MY2011] FA 2.2 TD4 XS

Check to see if air in being drawn in, which is visible in the clear line between the filter and pump. The O ring seals in the temperature sensor is the likely cause of air getting in. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

By clear line presumably you mean the one I used with my syphon pump (#4 in Alex's helpful picture)? I can't see any other clear pipe. I ended up also using exit port#1

I also cut this bit of the heavy guard to the fuel filter, which helps when refitting.

Will be using coopers filter again because the last one is still working good after four years.

No the one on the fuel system, it goes between the fuel filter and the LP fuel pump. There's an issue where the O ring on the filter connection stops sealing tight, allowing a stream of bubbles to get to into the fuel system. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
