Died on me low fuel pressure.

Technical help needed please. 2010 Sd4

Low performance fault then engine died yesterday. Just over 1/4 tank AA guy said low fuel pressure (P0087) and some codes for incorrect fuel level.

Ran a bit on easy start.

This above I assumed was the saddle pump and thus out of fuel.

Added 20litres, disconnected battery for an hour. Bled the fuel filter, pressed and held starter for five seconds, then tried to start per the manual.

Won’t start. Waiting on a reader but I’m not sure it’ll read real time pressure.

The Rev counter does move when cranking.

Anything else I should try? Or is it go replace stuff starting with the HP pump. I assume a filter wouldn’t be sudden, and if primed (via red hose) then what is in the rails would get at least and start then stall?

My background is flat 4/6 motors so this is my first diesel.

The final poster on the link below doesn't seem to tell us of final outcome but it contains lots of info about fuel pressure. I don't think that the FL2 will attempt to inject fuel if it thinks that fuel pressure is incorrect.
There is talk of a wiring fault to the sensor amongst the posts.

PS Just a thought the HP Fuel Pump is driven off the end of the Camshaft and has been known to break the drive. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Re the suggestion of the camshaft drive for the high pressure pump failing. A 2010 car should be well beyond the scope of that failure unless it’s had an old camshaft installed.

Thanks for the help. Been waiting on parts. So I primed the fuel properly and she started. Great.

So pretty sure it was the hump tank pump as over half full now and it’ll start and run.

Cleared all the codes and fuel pressure doesn’t come back. But….

I’ve no idea why this is here now but I’ve got a code for DPF full and DPF soot high bank 1

When I broke down I was coming to the end of a 160mile journey so I don’t all the way believe it. If I clear the code it comes right back and I have limited performance. Not sure she’ll do motorway speeds.

Codes now are:

P2463 : diesel particulate filter restriction soot accumulation- bank 1
P2459 : Particulate filter regeneration, regeneration frequency implausible

You need to try a forced regen,

Some code readers have that option i.e the Autel AP200 white, or else take it to a good garage they should be able to do a forced regen

Right. Seems like I got Land Rovered.

First I couldn’t get my iCarsoft LR v2.0 to force a regen. But looking at the live data something seemed off with the pressure. I checked the hoses to the DPF and sure enough the upper one was split, well it snapped in two when I touched it. Lower one is oddly fine and supple.

Replaced, went on a long ish run on fast ish roads (Devon, so an hour to a motorway) and the DPF cleared and the g/M3 came down from 28 to less than 5. Still some to clear but it’s working. Runs great.

Soooooooooo

Ignoring the AA man who said the low pressure pump in the tank was dead as he wasn’t getting pressure at the rail… (the pump in the tank isn’t a lift pump on the FL2 and he didn’t know that, neither did I at the time) could a split DPF sensor hose cause the car to stall and not restart?

Or did two things happen the same day!?!?
