Yokohama Geolander G015 AT or Kumho AT51

Anyone had experience with either of these hoops?

Looking for a replacement for my current Scorpion ATR in favour of a more offroad oriented tyre. I have a set of HT tyres for normal on road commuting.

I'd say mostly mud, dirt and rock.

The Yokohama has a better speed rating (H), but here in Oz the original spec speed rating isn't relevant for Freelanders the T rating of the Kumho doesn't matter that much.

They will be standard 235/65/17 size.

Have I forgotten anything? I love tyre shopping! MY11 SD4 SE Auto

We've just had a set of (235/55/19) Yokohamas fitted on our Disco sport as replacements for a set of Goodyear Wranglers. The Yokohamas are very quiet given their chunky tread pattern and the ride is on the supple side and the handling great. We previously had some General Grabber AT's on the wife's old Fl2 but they were a touch on the noisy side , these were eventually changed for some Michelin Latitude cross which were very impressive but started to perish after 3-4 years. My favourite tyres on our Freelander 2's have been Pirelli Scorpion ATR's which I think the Yokohamas are comparable to.

Geolandar GO15's fitted to my i6. Over sized at 265/60/18, and I've found them to be very good in all conditions.Good off road, too.

Great, thanks very much guys.
Wasn't sure if you had yours fitted yet, Mark. I do like the ATRs but they are a bit long in the tooth now, and if I'm updating I want to upgrade as well.

Cheers.

What gap do you have between the rear shocks?

I only have 4.4mm gap with 255mm tyres. So in theory 10mm wider tyres would be 5mm inside & outside & would just touch the shocks unless you are using wheel spacers which are illegal in Australia.

Hi Lightwater
Wondering how the GO15s are going? Nearly ready for a new set and I'm going back and forth between them or Continental Cross Contact AT. I don't do heavy off road stuff and mostly beach and dunes but planning to go to the Flinders Ranges and want good puncture resistance from all the rocky gravel tracks. I've got 235/60 r18s as standard and it sounds like I could push out in width a bit without changing the rims. What advice did you get in this area?
Thanks in advance.

I've recently fitted a set of Avon AX7 255/55r18 All Terrain tyres, and so far am very pleased with them. Tried out some challenging off-road tracks, and they performed admirably. Fairly quiet on road as well. It's not a tyre you hear talked about on the forum, but they are worth a look. -------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks Seadog. I've done a search and it doesn't look like they are available in Australia. Pity because the tread pattern looks like it would fit the bill.

Sorry Drew. That's probably because they're a British-made tyre. I blame Brexit.... -------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry for the late reply, Lightwater.
I have the Evoque rims with a greater off-set which pushes the tyres out further than the standard HSE rims, but I also have 25mm spacers. Thumbs Up
