Has anyone had in fuel tank problems ?
My mate has a 2014 td4 , I have a 2014 sd4 auto . My friends car goes into limp mode , he puts fuel in and its ok until he uses half a tank . I have searched online and think it has something to do with one/both fuel sensors in the tank , thus not transferring fuel to the pump side . I have checked the terminal on top of the tank and sprayed them with electrical cleaner .

I also read you have to remove the prop shaft and fuel tank in order to remove the pump , is this correct ?

The early FL2s had a recall to fix limp mode caused by tank gauge wiring.

The FL2 will go into Limp Mode to protect the Fuel Pump from running dry, if it suspects a very low fuel state. -- note -- I said suspects -- so even a false reading will limit power.

Thank you for replying , I had a quick look , and most are about faulty fuel gauges , my friends FL2 is 14 reg and does not have a faulty gauge , I suspect the fuel transfer pump or sensor/wiring . As long as he keeps it above half full he has no issues with it . He is not well and I would like to sort it - if I can .

My my real point was that the 'Limp Home' is the normal reaction of FL2 to 'thinking' that it is getting low on fuel.

If its intermittent then I think that a bit of pushing and pulling of the loom and connectors might be worth doing, and watch the fuel gauge. It may be even a dodgy/corroded pin on the connectors.

I think the clue is - does filling car the car with fuel immediately cure 'Limp Home' mode.

This is what I have just done today.

I took 20L of fuel out of the tank at least and it would do the same. To get to it I would say isn't fun but not difficult. Had to drop exhaust, prop and fuel tank, be aware when removing fuel tank the heat shield bracket can get stuck behind haldex
