Hopefully someone will recognise these symptoms as I cant get to the bottom of it.

Between approximately 1500 and 2000 rpm, peaking at 1800 rpm there is a whirring / vibration type noise coming from what i think is underneath the gear stick (auto box), or at least that area.
It doesnt really occur during winter or when the car is cold but when its summer and the ambient temp is 20 deg C and when the car is warm it starts to make a sound.

Its purely related to RPM and makes the same noise no matter what gear but is loudest below 50mph. Driving around town its pretty loud now.

Its not a 2011 model so I wouldnt think it was the known issue people seem to report. I had the transmission and rear diff fluid replaced as per service schedule in 2022.

Its done 106k miles.

Any advice greatly received.

If its engine speed related, the Alternator Pulley/Belt is a good thing to check.
The pulley has a one-way clutch, which fails and jams.

I would do a full flush of the fluid

Was the fluid completely changed or just one change of the sump fluid.

It should be completely changed every 24 to 36 thousand miles.

You have said that it is RPM related and not road speed. Have you confirmed noise is there when engine exercised in neutral, and not when car is moving (also in neutral).

If it is road speed related then by all means suspect transmission, my rear diff failure started with a distant whining noise. It got louder until it had the characteristic 'out of align' gear noise.

If RPM check things like Air Con on/off (has been known to make noise even when just needing re-gas) and other belt driven items. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

I did a test and put the car in neutral and held the revs at the same range. I definitely heard the noise albeit perhaps a little fainter.

Interestingly ambient temperature seems to make a big difference. When its 16deg and over its quicker to get to the noise. When its colder in the morning the noise isnt there and when the engine is up to temperature its always there, but louder if its a hot day.

Im fairly sure I had the belt pulley replaced when the cam belt was replaced a few years ago but i guess it could have gone since then?

I had the big 10 year service done at a trustworthy independent Land Rover specialist so i have faith in the fact that they carried out all the fluid changes in the gear box and diff.

So hopefully its a belt pulley issue. Got it booked in in two weeks so lets see what the guys say.
