Hi,

I have a whine/ droning noise coming from the the front of the car it is there when driving in a straight line and turning right but nothing when I go left, does anyone have any ideas or experience of this.

Could be left hand front wheel bearing. As you turn right, the car will roll slightly to the left and put more weight on that side. The more the car rolls and the faster you go, the louder the noise will be. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Jack up a wheel. spin the wheel and keep a hand on the coil spring. if you can feel a vibration through the coil then wheel bearing likely. Also worth repeating on other side for comparison.

I found it a useful test when i had a wheel bearing fail. Jules

Sound advice from both of you, I am changing the PTU oil this week I will check things out then.

Tested both front wheels today, both run freely without any noise or feeling through the spring or play in any direction.
Any ideas please as I would prefer not to do the replace and see option.

Try accelerating from standstill on left and right lock. (CV joints, Splines, ETC )
Try braking on L & R lock, + straight line.

There is equipment that you can attach to different parts to locate/measure noise.

Thanks. I am still looking towards it being the left wheel bearing, no noise when turning left and plenty of noise when turning right and noisy in a straight line.
