New owner - struggle fueling

Hi,

I bought a FL2 a few weeks ago and it had half a tank of diesel already in it. Car hasn't done much driving and went down to just under quarter of a tank. Went to fill up the tank which took about £45 before it started to click to say it was full and then spit diesel at me, so I assumed was full. However when I got back into the car it was only registering 3/4 of a tank

Any info would be great if this is common? Love the car so far tia!

As mentioned it is the missfueling device look down the filler neck if you can see a bright yellow flap with a image of the handbook on it that's what it is,

If you do not have the resetting tool you can easily make one get a length of coathanger wire bend it into a U shape about ten inches long then bend the ends over so you have two prongs about half inch long,
then insert the prongs into the two slots in the filler neck and pull up till the flap is released. 2013 FL2 XS.

What triggers the missfuel device?
Does it mean someone has tried to put petrol in it? Jules

Handbook p134-135

2010 Handbook, p134-135

"If the narrow filler nozzle fitted to pumps delivering unleaded petrol is fully inserted into the filler neck, the misfuel protection device will activate.
Note: The filler spout on some fuel cans and older fuel pumps may trigger the misfuelling device."

So it could be triggered by a funnel or a spout on a Jerry Can, not necessarily a petrol pump nozzle. Here's hoping that's all it was.

It’s not even wire, just a bit of moulded plastic!

I take it you looked in your boot/spare wheel well/tool kit first? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Petrol nozzle is smaller diameter about 21mm, diesel is about 24mm. The smaller diameter nozzle triggers the device. Look for a funnel where spare tyre is located, usually provided with JLR cars which has the larger diameter (24mm) it allows emergency fueling from pump or jerry can as an extra to the reset device.
