How often do folks change the fuel filter? 10,000 - 20,000 or every year?

According to the JLR schedule service A or B every other year BUT make sure you use a genuine one or a Purflex one as the cheaper ones do not have the thermostat in them. 2013 FL2 XS.

I change the fuel filter every 12K miles and always use Genuine or purflex.
As Rommel stated the cheaper ones lack internal parts.
Plenty of other ways to save money but scrimping on the fuel filter can turn out to be something to regret. Jules

I change mine every 20k miles. Every other service basically.
It gets an oil and filter at 10k then the full set of filters and oil every 20k. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Nope, since I retired and do very little annual milage, I change oil and filter every year and do no more than 3k miles between changes oil has hardly gone black. 2013 FL2 XS.

I also work on a schedule give or take 250 miles
6K oil and filter
12K add cabin filter and air filter
24K add all fluids, including Auto box flush and Fuel Filter
60K Belts and gubbins but may do that at 50K I can feel my fingers itching

I replace all filters every year, regardless of mileage.
It just makes sense. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

Skimping on oil and filters is another one to avoid.
Am I the only one who does 6k oil and filter changes?

i change all filters yearly and fuel filter every 2 years as dont do that many miles per year about 5k miles . 2009 FL2 S now gone

For me it's oil and filter every year
fuel filter every two and always purflex,
transmission oils every three years,
hydraulic fluid as and when my spannerman says.
I'm only covering around 3500 miles per year now. DAVE.

Going against the grain here, but surely a fuel filter is one item that deterioration is simply is a function of mileage. If it’s good for 20k, and you do 5k a year, why not 4 years?

All the fluids I get. But a fuel filter? I only use JLR filters.

I’m just putting together my own personal schedule for fluids and filters (because I too don’t accept JLR recommendations on servicing, and do very few miles - all my changes will be way shorter than JLR recommendations, bar the fuel filter)

I think that time between oil changes is as important as mileage, because not only does oil deteriorate with time but sludge settles in rarely used low mileage cars.

My opinion is that Engine Oil (plus Filter) needs changing every year, almost regardless of mileage.

Transmission Oils are a different matter and are a matter of balancing servicing cost against failure/replacement, but I am surprised that JLR say that lubricants last successfully 10 years.

Doing servicing yourself (at zero manhour cost) changes all the calculations when of servicing versus replacement costs. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Agree on annual oil changes. My point was about the fuel filter.

I can vouch that 10 years is too long for Tranny fluid. Changed mind at 10 years and it’s transformed the gear change. Thats at 50k miles. I would say do a single transmission change at 25k or 5 years.

Diesel Fuel Filters require changing every year (10k miles ?) as they clog up quicker than Petrol Filters (100k miles ?)
Again vehicle usage plays its part with sludge building up faster in low mileage vehicles to counter lack of throughput.
The cost of a Fuel Filter is small in comparison to repairing any damage to items caused by debris, or sorting out vehicle performance problems caused by poor fuel flow.

Don't for get oil products contain long strings of molecules that love to break up with use (viscosity) or group together with time (sludge), --or at least that's my understanding of lubricants--. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
