United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4_e HSE Manual Zermatt Silver
Power steering high pressure hose

I recently changed the power steering reservoir, pump and fluid as there was a juddering when steering whilst stationary and a leak.

A few months hence, I checked the fluid and found the reservoir coated with an oily black deposit and the fluid brown and watery rather than clear and green. The juddering whilst turning the steering stationary is intermitent and probably due to the resevoir filter being clogged up.

I am assuming the dark muck in the fluid is from the rubber hoses breaking down and so I propose to change the high pressure hose.

Thoughts please. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE 2010

If nobody has put the wrong fluid in the system, then it sounds like fluid degradation or impending pump failure. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Hodge,

Pump is new as is fluid which is genuine LR stuff. That is why I wondered about the hoses. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE 2010

Am I right in thinking that the Power Steering system requires very careful flushing, including many turns lock to lock, otherwise the Dirty Fluid problem just keeps re-occurring? FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Yes indeed. I have done this twice until the fluid has been clear and with new reservoir each time. Hence my suggestion that the rubber pipes are perishing. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE 2010
