I reckon the 1 in 83 includes a lot of cars permanently in garages & back yards. They never actually go on the road. Probably some from older people who have simply stopped driving.

It's very true. A similar number don't have MOTs either, and something like 1 in 500 driver's don't even have a licence. The police don't do anything about it. It'll be a Cat N, which is a minor write off for cosmetic damage only. It makes about a 20% drop in a subsequent insurance claim, not exactly the end of the world. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

It’s cheaper and quicker to write it off then repair it. They are not on the hook for hire car charges, no storage fees etc, or the hook if anything happens to the repair further down the line like paint blistering etc. it’s a throw away world. |

And they get the scrap value to also help offset the payout. The "breaker" might get a deal! |
