Canada 2008 LR2 i6 SE Auto Tambora Flame

My i6 came with stock HIDs with 35w ballasts. I've replaced the HIDs with 6000K after market bulbs. Since your conversion kit will include the ballasts, I don't see any real issues with the higher wattage other than heat generated and they usually will have sufficient fans or heatsinks to compensate. Any should be fine once you choose a reliable manufacturer.

Interestingly, I've never had 2 bulbs go together.

I'm sure you know this but just to reiterate these HID bulbs MUST only used in a projector lamp, not a reflector unit.

I bought the Stealth-X 35w in 2022 5500K (white not blue/ice white) in 2022. Been very happy with them. More than adequate for normal driving.

Instructions were clear. You dont need all the wires included in the kit. With having the LED running lights and side lights in my 2014 car there was plenty of room to install the HID control box and connectors within the headlight unit making it look a normal projector light until.
Originally there were some small stickers on the headlight units indicating the bulb type to be fitted, but they had fallen off in the course of time.


I have no idea as to whether the 55W versions would be too bright and annoy other drivers or possibly cause you to be temporarily blinded by reflected light from your own lights, but the thoughts occurred to me.

I'm also not sure what he difference is between the X and non-X version. Why dont you give the ABD a ring. Jules

I remember that the ABD HID bulbs were slightly loose in the light unit so I bent the retaining tabs slightly to grip them better - a thin plastic washer would have effected the same thing but I couldnt find any amongst all my stuff. Jules

Yes i know they need to be fitted to projectors and the potential for an mot fail if the inspector is vigilant Shocked

Looks like I'll be going for the 35w range in 5000k as that's closest to natural daylight from what I read

Another question how do you fit the balasts I was thinking a heat proof double sided tape on the back cover .

I'd go for what @jules is using, the 5500K. I lived rural for about 12 years and also towed at night without any lighting other than the moon on rural treelined roads, so I personally prefer the 6000K, it's just better for me. But everyone thinks the 5500K is closer to white vs blue (my 6000s have neve been blue IMO) but I did have a lens replacement in one eye and I do notice the untouched eye is a wee bit "warmer" tint! Rolling with laughter

Go for the 5500K unless you think that might trigger the MOT in your country/county.

My MGZT with 20yr old HIDs is 4500k and is fine so I think 5000k should be fine cant be any worse than the halogens even with nightbrakers in!

I stuck these to the inside floor of the light unit with the double sided sticky pads that came in the kit. Jules
