VAG (vw group) powersteering fluid.

Hi all,
Doing power steering service on my newly acquired Freelander 2, i6 SE, 2007 m.y.

As I have read it, the system needs fluid compatible with CHF 202.
Newest type of VAG (VW) green power steering fluid meets that. Synthetic and CHF 202 type.
Have anyone on here used that?

I am going to install a new fluid reservoir and flush the system.

Any comments appreciated.

Kind regards,
Redfox.

Right, so I flushed the system and now running on VAG CHF202 green fluid. Works well.
Kind regards,
Redfox.

Well done. Did you take the RH headlight unit out to improve access ? Jules

No, I did not take out the headlight off.
Actually I don't really get why that should be needed, as there is enough space to grip the one tube's constant tension fastener with a tool, and after that press the "button" on the other hose's fast click connection.

It was really easy to do. But the black/brown mud that came out... Yuck! I wonder why people don't service their cars. Now all clear and green.

Kind regards,
Redfox.

Its not "needed" but some people find it easier to do it that way. Jules

Redfox,

The 3.2 wasn't sold for very many years in the UK. Most of the users on this board are Diesel powered.

I am in the US and I also have the 3.2.

I stopped using the Land Rover coolant a long time ago and I just use G13 if you know what that is. But keep that between us.

If you really want to Maintain your 3.2 then I have the link for you.

Be careful what you wish for.

Under High Mileage Maintenance items for 3.2 you just completed

6. Power steering fluid and reservoir replaced due to noisy heavy steering

Take care

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the tips. Duly noted. I've read them all. A lot of work in front of me to be done, once the Winter is driven away (no garage).
On my Esprit, it takes some 6-7 hours to free up parts and take off the exhaust manifold. I can do it properly in 1½ hour.
There's a lot to be done on my Freelander 2 i6, as it's been kept well, until a certain new owner some years ago. Then sloppiness and bad wrenching or lack thereof. So now, I am correcting as many mistakes, errors and what not, as I can find. Then heavy service items in hopefully one go.
For example I have to redo all seats. My i6 is the only one in my country and it drives rather well. I'll take this one over a Toyota 4runner every day, and I have been looking at some.

I really need a servicemanual.

Kind regards,
Redfox.

There's no need to remove the headlamp to get to the reservoir, it's no more difficult to change than on the diesel. Thumbs Up Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
2009 Rimini Red SE TD4. Gone.
2006 Tonga Green i6 HSE. Gone.
Audi A5 convertible, my daily driver.

Thanks for the link to manuals. A beefy one Wink

My pc won't let me install the dropbox and my sec. prog. won't allow me to give credit card details for a freeware for one month, so it's a bit tedious to look at. Anyway, maybe there's another link to a place where it's easier to download the file.

Thanks.
kind regards,
Redfox.
