Evening all, happy new year.

I used to own a D3 (about 10 years ago! ) which is/was/felt fricking huge, which is one of the reasons I don’t have one currently.

Is the FL2 really a similar width? I thought they would have been a fair bit narrower than the brochures suggest.

yep, FL2 mirrors are big.

Freelander 1 was a lot narrower, which IIRC negatively influenced export sales as some of the more traditional markets want wide cars for wide people. Jules

The FL2 was wider than I thought, although I quickly learnt how wide it was when negotiating the local narrow roads/lanes.

Surprisingly I noticed that the RRS about the same width when I was investigating a possible upgrade.

The Land-Rover Range Rover Sport has a length of 4946 mm, a height of 1820 mm, a width of 1990 mm without the exterior mirrors and a measurement of 2209 mm with the mirrors unfolded

Worth noting the FL2 is larger than the original Range Rover was in most dimensions, and much more powerful!

OK so we have compared the FL2 and the Disco 3/4, but what about the New Defender, which others believe is a 'BIG' vehicle.

The Freelander body width is 1910mm. You can stick on some door strips to make it wider, about 1930mm. It has very wide window sills to rest your arm on, love them! So probably the seats are set inwards a bit more than the D3/4.

We sleep in the Freelander as we are generally too lazy to put the tent up.

So good planning within the car for camping storage, the internal space is enough.

We have 3 compressors, 4 x 26AH batteries, 60L water (up to 80L), tow ropes, 28L fridge, 2 camping chairs & table & too much other camping "crap & tools" in the car. But well organised never felt a shortage of width or length in the car.

One of the things my wife likes about the FL2 are the cut-away door sills -you dont get mud on your legs so easily as in other vehicles. Jules

My youngest child was 5 when I bought my LR2 in 2008 on the ides of March.

I have three kids total.

When I selected the LR2 the room in the back for three children (5, 10 and 15) was a requirement and the LR2 was the smallest vehicle that met the need. My C-Class Merc. wasn't big enough.

After 8 years or so the LR2 wasn't big enough anymore but by that time two of my kids were driving.

I still have the LR2 and my youngest is driving it now.

I need to get the annual check done so wish me luck!!
Its like a MOT if you remove all of the safety requirements and only check emissions.



If you are looking for a narrow vehicle then the LR2 isn't it.

I guess that's one reason why there are utube sites like "Just rolled in".

Some of the DIY brake, suspension and chassis repairs are really frightening  Jules

Some crazy examples on those videos, frightening that they can share the roads in that state 😬
