Hi all I have a problem with my freelander 2 2.2 I prime the filter and the pipe leading to the pump fills sa soon as I stop priming the pipe empty and it won't start I suspect fule pump anyone any idea

Is this after changing the fuel filter?? 2013 FL2 XS.

No I changed the high pressure pipe on the power steering it started after to remove the air in the system I turned the engine off put the wheel back on and dropped it off the jack then it wouldn't start AA came out 2 hours later he said you have a fueling problem and he went can't get a garage till after Christmas to me it seems like the high pressure pump I presume there's a none return valve in it that's failed don't want to buy a new pump if its not that

I've read that 3 times and, without punctuation, it's still hard to know what's going on.

What has the power steering got to do with the fuel pump ?

When you dropped it off the jack, did you break something ? The jack may have hit something under the car; maybe you've crushed a fuel line. Jules

Apologies punctuation isn't my strong point but basically the high pressure fuel pump is letting air in the system or seems to be when ì prime the system you can see fuel go into the pump but as soon as I stop priming the pipe fills with air

How much fuel do you have in the tank

Well over half a tank

I pumped fuel through the high pressure pump can't say the hand pump got any harder to pump and when I stopped pumping air returns to the fuel pipe

I don't think you can pump fuel "through " the HP pump only to it? are you able to fully prime the fuel filter? with a hand pump? if so try starting the engine without removing the hand pump, if air is entering the pipe
to the HP pump then there is a hole in the fuel pipe between the tank and the filter sucking in air???

Also as Jules mentioned I cannot see how this is/was connected to a power steering issue?????????? 2013 FL2 XS.

I've pumped fuel round the system when I stopped I'm getting air in the pump tube seems to be coming from the filter would the filter letting air in cause my problems?

I’ve had similar problems and got around it by attaching a brake bleed kit hooked up to an air compressor and sucking the fuel through the system at point 8 in the diagram (return fuel line attachment on the fuel filter). This ensured there was no air in the system.
