2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e HSE Manual Barolo Black

Have to agree with Nodge. Why would you risk beggering the fuel pump or injectors for the sake of a cheap tool that will serve many purposes?

2014 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Alaska White

Finally got round to changing my fuel filter today.
The only problem I had was the electrical connector thats on the base of filter.
I couldnt see any connections on the bottom of filter so is that connector really necessary to be put back on. This is on a 2014 model.

2014 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey

Hi don't believe it's necessary. My Sd4, also 2014, doesn't have that connector. None of the fuel filters I've ever used have had any electrical contacts to accept the connector, some have a moulded blank that you could clip a harness onto but wouldn't perform any function as no contacts.
I seem to remember reading somewhere that it's to alert to water in fuel? (Could be wrong on that, someone else will know for certain) Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Saw a couple of YT videos both just primed the new filter then turned ignition on without starting engine a few times to get pump working then all was good.

Thats what I thought, will leave it disconnected next time.
At the least the drain pipe(flimsy bloody thing ) fitted ok.

IIRC Its because late model FL2s shared the wiring loom from the Evoque. The wire I believe is for a water sensor which the FL2 doesnt have.
My 2014 SD4 has the wire and connector and there is a dummy socket for it on the genuine fuel filter - go figure. Jules

Typical journo hyperbole designed to further enrage those who are easy to rile in the first place.

I think its been on the cards for ages because LPG is not really a "popular" fuel for cars, despite what GBNotNews says.

I know one person who uses LPG and that's for his 101, and he doesnt fill up at petrol stations anyway. Jules

How does that work? The lift pump is mechanical, it's part of the HP pump. Simply putting the ignition on will do nothing, as the engine isn't turning.
These engines need the fuel system primed with a bulb pump temporarily placed in the fuel feed line. Once the pump can't pump any more fuel, the pump is removed from the feed line and placed in the return line instead, which draws any remaining air out the fuel system. At this point the engine can be started. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

LPG will be gone by the end 2024. It never delivered the low pollution that it was claimed it would. I believe its going to be de-regulated as a road vehicle fuel, so you technically can't use it even if you store your own in a big tank. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

he just shoots whit airgun directly TO TANK port to pressurise fuel tank.

Sedimentor

Before I try replacing the fuel filter for the first time, I'm puzzled by the LR service schedule point 11, which says 'Drain Fuel Sedimentor'.

I'm assuming this is the water draining facility in the filter but can't find any posts about doing this. Is it only necessary between services when the whole filter is changed?

Ive never drained water from my fuel filter in 17 years of FL2 ownership.

Just changed the fuel filter at the B service . Jules

2013 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Fuji White

There is no drain tap on the filter to facilitate this, there is on 300TDi Defenders and also a water trap on 300TDi Disco 1, why JLR have this on the service schedule is a bit of a mystery bit like them showing a drain plug for the PTU on the parts list when there isn't one?? 2013 FL2 XS.
