Hi, I'm a new FL2 owner, 07 plate auto FL2 SE.

Test drove it last Tuesday, picked it up Thursday drove fine both times no issues. Moved cars around on drive on Friday started no issues.

Went to start it Saturday morning and won't start.

Doors unlock key fob goes in and gets taken, foot on brake press button, can hear motors quietly. Immobiliser light flashes on dash but no other lights on dash.
Interior lights work, hazards and side lights work and windows work. Did have radio but doesn't come on or turn on now. Did have nav screen but that doesn't come on either.

Steering lock doesn't release.

Have checked fuses under the bonnet no problems. Have taken off battery and charged but didn't need much.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

First thing comes to mind is earth strap? Defective starter motor? How old is the battery though it says charged could still be down on amps? or maybe starter solenoid?

If you bought it from a dealer I would get them to sort it. 2013 FL2 XS.

Battery was changed in 2021.

We have a fancy charger somewhere that tells you if the battery is faulty will see if I can find it and test it.

Private sale unfortunately, have contacted seller who has said that he's never had this problem before, but who knows!

It did have the HDC light which garage has said is possibly down to the offside wheel bearing needs replacing we were aware of that and have a new hub for it on order.

I've a lost of things to try, but most threads I've read on here already don't have the same no dash issue that I've got 😫🤔

Steering lock does cause problems usually with the steering column locked message may be worth a try taking the bottom cover under the wheel off and pulling the connections and reconnecting and giving the actuator a tap or three.

HDC failure can be signs of a dodgy battery.

What does HDC fault mean?
If the battery is unable to provide a sufficient charge, the HDC system will show that it is unavailable. Failing Alternator: A failing alternator will not be able to keep the battery charged. If the battery is not charged, it cannot provide the HDC system the power it needs to operate.

I would check it starting using a fully charged battery and/or Battery Booster.

Welcome to the world of weird electrical gremlins.

Besides checking the battery to chassis and chassis to engine earths, its worth remembering that the starter motor needs a lot of current but is only running on 12v and so needs a good low resistance connection. Corrosion at the starter motor connection can prevent the starter even turning- even with a good battery (ask me how I know?). Its worth cleaning the connection so its a shiny copper colour.


Also I remember reading something along the lines of that if the fob wont unlock the steering column then first try holding it onto the underside of the steering column and try unlocking again.


After that - I'd do a hard reset (Disconnect battery leads and holding together for a couple of minutes to discharge all the systems capacitors, then reconnect to a good battery - (you'll probably need to reset the electric windows but that takes only seconds).

If still not working than I'd check for DTC codes via the OBD socket.

I've just checked the battery and it isn't start stop compatible 🤦‍♀️🙄

We got a disco 3 at the beginning of the year so not entirely new to the world of electrical gremlins (although touch wood, that's been OK)

I also have 2 freelander face-lifts and partner has 2 90's 🤣 my drive is like a landrover forecourt!!

Check the connections at the CJB and fuse box, as the wiring to them is below the glove box, and easily knocked by a passenger's feet. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

I would just unplug & replug the connectors. Could just be a bit of corrosion somewhere.
