Holding in gear and split turbo hose?

SD4 2013 spec auto. What is the thing attached to the engine above the small turbo pipe at the front? Had some weird stuff happen last night. Normally driven short distances on the 'flat'. Yesterday took a trip through the peak district. Going up a hill tried to overtake a cyclist. bogged down and spit hose noise from under bonnet. Missus driving so use of excessive throttle obviously not going to happen. Ended up in restricted performance mode. Makes no difference to missus as 55 is tops anyway. Going up past the blue john mines it was down to 15mph by the top and seemed reluctant to downshift. Got home and I decided to take it out and see what was happening. Set of in an overly aggressive way, Loads of split pipe noise so obviously a problem there. but the more mysterious issue seems to be the autobox holding gears way too long very nearly into the red in lower gears. Help! FL2 SD4 HSE lux auto

Fix the pipe and see if that cures the gearbox problem

My experience of 'Restricted Performance - Limp Home' mode was quite scary when trying to return home on motorways. The sudden loss of speed was dangerous and I diverted to minor rods as soon as possible.

Although speed eventually settled at about 55mph cruise, the slightest incline brought the speed down to 20mph or so. The engine bogged down easily and there was no 'kick down' available.

So I think curing your hose problem will most likely clear lack of power/gearbox control problems. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Sounds promising. would do them myself but there seems to be loads of stuff in the way on the SD4. I'll ring my mechanic. FL2 SD4 HSE lux auto
