JLR turns to second-hand parts to clear repairs backlog

Interesting. Is this an issue for all manufacturers or just JLR ?

For me reliability is an important factor when buying a car. There is nothing more annoying than having a car that is constantly breaking down and spending ages in the garage.

One of the reasons for taking the massive depreciation hit of buying a new car is that you expect faults to be sorted quickly. So it must be hugely frustrating for JLR owners.

I guess Ive been lucky. I've usually bought my cars at 1 year old so some other person has had the pleasure sorting all the niggly faults out under warranty for me.
My 3 Discos (D1 and D2), 4 FL1s and 3 FL2 have been pretty reliable - none have broken down anywhere.

Didnt have the Lion engines of the D3 and D4.

I can't find the article, but I am sure that I have read a couple of month ago that garages were starting to use 'Freshly Harvested' Second-hand Parts.

As the price of cars (and therefore their parts) has rocketed it has become very profitable to strip damaged cars, then clean, categorise and pack them.

Firms like this in the link are sometimes very big and organised.

Although I am surprised that Main Dealers are going this way as, although warranted, you will not get the full expected life of a mechanical part.
Electronic Modules are not so likely to suffer wear and tear. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)
