Hi all ... thanks for letting me join the forum. I'm a new and happy owner of a manual Freelander 2 2007 SE and I'm looking forward to getting out and driving it. Unfortunately after 3 days of ownership I have an issue with the manual gearbox. Initially I had trouble finding 5th and 6th gear - there seemed to be a void where 5th gear should be. And then this morning all my forward gears were fine but I had NO reverse gear at all. Does anyone have any ideas? Can anyone recommend a trusty land rover mechanic in east Kent. Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks for your reply. Off to Halfords to get a Haynes manual and I'll take a look to see if the cables need to be lubricated. Cheers |

I don’t think you need a Haynes manual. Have a search on the forum and someone will have taken the airbox out and there’ll be a copy of the workshop manual somewhere. It’s only going to be 4 torx for the air filter, I’m pretty sure the inlet slides out and the airbox is only resting in grommets. You can check the water outlet at the bottom of the box for the flap valve while you’re at it. |

Bought one now along with a basic tool kit. I'm a bit of a luddite when it comes to mechanics but I'm willing to have a go. Thanks for your advice. |

Download the JLR workshop manual - its far better than the Haynes (they used to be good but not any more)

My previous manual FL2 had sticking gears - solved by lubricating the cables. Jules |

Blimey guys I've fixed it. Turned out to be the electrical connection to the reverse gear solenoid. I just plugged/unplugged it a couple of times and it's sorted the issue. Took it on 60 mile test drive and everything was fine. Thanks for everyone's advice. |
