Roof rack for FL2

Hi
been toying with notion of van conversion to camper van but tbh the cost is too much to purchase, refit, tax, MOT insure another vehicle so second plan is camping (tent) with freelander 2 and as i have 2 large dogs i cannot get all stuff plus dogs in car!
So...been looking at flatdog roof rack and wondered if anyone has one, can you take it off and leave rails on when not in use etc.
Any thoughts?

I have a funny feeling Lightwater will have tried every type that will fit an FL2. Racks seem to be standard issue out Aus.

I have the FrontRunner rack. Superb quality, handy for additional bale transportation....

It's a fit-it and leave-it job. You *can* take it off and pop some bolts in to close the fixing holes, but it's not trivial to do so. I leave it on all year and average 28-29mpg so it's not dreadful. Current driveway contents:
2021 V60 Cross Country B5
2009 FL2 dog bus and shooting wagon

On Order: 2023 Fisker Ocean Ultra - deposit paid.

I had a Rhinorack roof platform, still have it in the garage if I ever use it again. Most likely not.

It is well made, but it was the wrong size to really fit the Freelander well. So I drilled out all the pop rivets, cut the platform to size. Now it works really well, about 200 pop rivets later & 3 days work...the issue with custom modified mounts to the Land Rover crossbars, it wasn't the most stable set up, so removed the roof platform.

I have in the meantime strengthened the Land Rover rails, the weak point on the whole set-up, is the cast bracket connection to the car & to the aluminium extrusion.

Now using 4 crossbars. It's a much better set-up, with the benifit of removing 16kg net weight from the roof which now can be put towards consumables & useful equipment.

Current set-up:

These modifications were done after replacing the roof platform with 4 cross bars. It's a much better set-up. The only single reason I would use a roof platform is if you are a keen photographer & you regularly need an elevated position, or if necessary, mobile reception & need to stand on the roof to get high enough, which I have done. https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic35376.html Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
