Insurance valuations

Its that time of year again, Insurance renewal. Happy with the renewal price at £430 with Churchill (gone up £100 since last year) but shopping around identified its a good deal with nobody offering like for like at that price. My reason for posting is having used Go-compare and Compare the market I was amazed at the difference in market value they applied. Our FL2 is a 13 reg HSE with FSH and less than 60k, and is mint. Go-compare stated a market value of £7,880 but Compare the market came back with £11,900.

Have you tried A-Plan Insurance the site sponsors? Common sense isn't very common.

My 2014 SETech with 120,000 miles also came back with an automatic valuation of about £11k.

In fact I found that this number doesn't make much difference to the insurance price, if you are using Compare the Market you can change the number then run through the quotes again to see what happens. I would be careful of putting in a low number because that's what they will pay you if the car is a total loss. Also they might use "underinsured" as an excuse to cancel cover.

@Congoblue - Snap ! valuation the same for my car.

Personal circumstances account for a lot ie mileage, age , area, convictions etc etc.

We paid £198 to Halifax this year.

FWIW I always ring A-Plan but they never get below the motor insurance quotes I seem to find.
But their quote for home insurance was very good, especially as many insurers simply wont insure my house these days due to changes in the value to rebuild cost ratio. "The computer says no"! Jules

Sorry for not replying sooner, Yes I have tried A Plan in the past but their quotes are way off the mark. Our £430 premium is actually very good given our personal circumstances. No claims or convictions etc but we have a South London post code and the car is not garaged or parked on a driveway. To put it into some sort of perspective, my Wife's friend has a 2017 FF Range Rover and lives about 2 miles from us. she had an accident in it in 2018 and 2 years ago it was stolen and recovered (un damaged) the insurance company now insist it has a tracker fitted and this years renewal was just over £5k fully comp. The car is now for sale Shocked Back to my original point though, how can two different search engines have such a large gap in a vehicles market value. And even worse, if an unsuspecting customer takes out a policy via a comparison site, you could as mentioned, end up with a much lower pay out if you had to make a claim. Its something I will question in future when renewing any polices, i.e. what do you calculate the present market value at. 2007 TD4 XS The work horse that earns its up keep
