United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Santorini Black
PEELING AIRBAG PVC

Hi

As I seemed to have a good reply to the "black paint exhaust problem" I thought I would mention another issue I have with my new FL2. This issue did not really bother me and I only mentioned it to the dealer as I had to go in for the "black paint" problem. During the hot weather we had 2 weeks ago the pvc material at the top of the airbag module on the steering wheel started to peel off - not too noticeable so I stuck it down with superglue. Due to the other problem, whilst at the dealer, I mentioned this and the dealer again was quite suprised, they took pictures to send to LR and again I am awaiting their reply. Seems as if I am not doing to well with my new car cos the car itself is great and I enjoy driving it. Again anybody else noticed this problem ???? especially if the car is parked in the sun - which mine is at work, otherwise garaged.

There has been problems with the steering wheels in D3/RRS going sticky with heat/sun exposure they have had theirs replaced without any problem

sounds like its a material failure and it will be replaced, applying glues in enough amounts, to the airbag could give extra resistance when its needed mores as these a designed to tear open in a crash

Mad

Just a quick update - dealer says they are aware of this problem on the outer steering wheel but not on the actual airbag unit itself - never the less I have informed them it is still obviously a material defect.
Again awaiting response from dealer who is awaiting response from LR kooledude

my steering wheel got all sticky on the left outer side and when mentioning it to the dealer they didn't even ask for more, they replaced it directly. (what was a surprize...) no problems with the inner (airbag) side. Fl2 zermattsilver TD4 S man

Laughing
Finally LR agreed the material was faulty and the module was replaced yesterday - just to update this. kooledude
