Hi guys, needs some help please

I have an 07 with a rusted rear subframe so need to replace it.

I have seen posts on here saying an evoque 2012-2018 frame will fit it, as long as it is the 4wd version.

however, I have been speaking with a breaker who has a 2013 evoque frame and he tells me they are not interchangeable as the brackets for the rear arms are different location and the holes are different.

can somebody please confirm if they have changed this, or is it a big deal to switch to an evoque frame?

I had mine replaced with a new Brit part one.

Evoque and Freelander 2 subframes are interchangable as far as fitting to the body is concerned, however the Evoque suspension mounting holes are slightly higher up which is part of the geometry changes that allowed the Evoque's lower ride height. So they can be fitted but would alter the vehicle attitude. I'd hold out for the correct part if I were you.

From what I've read the difference in the geometry is small and acceptable . Im trying to find the link to back that statement up. Jules

As a non mechanic asking, can you shot blast an old subframe and have repair section welded in ? Or does a shot blaster blow it to bits

In general I think yes, shotblasting should not affect sound material too much but thin and rusty stuff might get removed more agressively than you want. On the other hand, if the shotblasting removes the material it probably wasn't doing much of a job holding your car together!

It also depends on what you mean by shotblasting. I think officially it means using steel balls which is very agressive but is often used to mean sand blasting or bead blasting too. Sandblasting (using sand or other grit) is less agressive and then there is vapour blasting which is less agressive again.

I could be wrong but I think sandblasting is the most common form used on car bodywork and chassis. But I don't know enough about it to say what the best media is. FL2 2007 2.2d Auto SE. Baltic Blue.

Blasting these days is referred to a media blasting, the media being anything and everything pretty much.
There is shot blasting, but this is used for giving heavy iron and steel components a tough beaten skin, it's not used for rust removal and would destroy a subframe in short order.
Rust removal uses much less aggressive media like carbide grit, various types and grades of sand, glass and ceramics in various grades and crushed walnut shells for delicate surfaces. There's loads more too, all with different uses on different materials. Media blasting is a very convenient way to clean metals, and handy to have someone local with the kit, that knows what they are doing. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

As above euro subframes do a replacement and it comes with bushes fitted saving a small fortune.. Costs in the region of £600 from memory.
