I'm new to this forum and don't know if this issue has come up before so here goes...
I've had an oddity happen recently, I have a 2011 manual TD4, I had just got some fuel (not that that's relevant), having got back in the vehicle I went to start the engine but when I pressed the Start, although all the lights on dash lit as usual the engine wouldn't start. Nothing happened. I removed the fob from the dock, put it back in and tried again, same thing. I opened the driver's door and shut it again and hey presto it started. I don't think I did anything different. This has happened once before last year. I'm curious if anyone more knowledgeable than me (not difficult) could explain what might be the issue here?
To me, the most likely cause is failure to detect the clutch had been pressed and opening and closing the door is just coincidence - but who knows...
Any thoughts please?

Did you hear the steering lock disengage when the key was docked? I'm thinking the lock didn't fully disengage the first time, which will prevent it starting.
Also are you allowing the system check to complete before pressing the clutch? This isn't in the handbook, but not allowing the system to boot before starting causes all sorts of data bus errors, which can log random codes, and even stop odd stuff from working, like the sunroof which happened to mine recently. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. I don't recall hearing the steering lock disengage, I'll have to listen out for that.
I don't specifically wait for the system check to complete before starting, so that's a possibility I hadn't considered could cause issues and it makes sense. Something else to be aware of from now on.

From the symptoms you describe, there is another possibility which is the starter motor, or more precisely, the starter motor solonoid

It's actually worth replacing the starter contactor set as a matter of course. They have a life of about 10,000 starts, so will be burnt anyway. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Might be worth checking condition of the battery - low voltage cuases a host of issues wit hhte FL2.

Thanks for the latest thoughts on this. I'll have to add replacing the solenoid contacts to the list of jobs, they must be pretty burnt by now. I haven't checked for faults yet, just haven't had time, fortunately the issue hasn't recurred again - yet.

next time it fails to start try tapping the starter with something heavy like a long crow bar or hammer,this usually jogs the worn contacts,if that is the fault,and will confirm that if it turns over,its something we do on road side breakdowns regularly.
