I have a fairly simple question that I thought would be easy to find searching the forum, but after reading dozens of threads and my best googlefu of other sources I can't find the answer.

My daughter just purchased a 2008 3.2L I6 and I noticed the battery was over 5 years old so I treated her to new Bosch AGM, so she wouldn't have to worry about an unexpected problem when the battery eventually failed. When I went to replace the battery, there was no vent tube attached to the old battery. The new battery had the vent attached, and I can see from some diagrams that there should be a vent tube.

I can easily fashion a new one, but what I don't know is where did the vent tube go? IOW, where exactly is the vent tube routed and where does it end?

Thanks, but I had already downloaded the manual and couldn't find the answer there.

I found one parts illustration that shows the shape of the vent tube, but fails to show where the tube exactly vents to.

Though new to this forum, I'm not new to automotive forums, so I try to search prior threads and look at the service manual before posting a question. 2008 3.2L I6 Auto

I know this is small stuff, but I'd like to get the car sorted before she starts driving it regularly.

If anyone could take a look for me the next time you are under the bonnet, I would appreciate it.

I have the same problem, td4 I discovered the lack of the tube...would someone indicate the path it takes...possibly with photos.Best regards

As far as I remember it just goes down the side of the battery.

Yes, if it were me I'd just install it going down. Attach it so the open end isn't near anything which would not benefit from sulfuric acid fumes. I'd try to attach so the end is below the engine stuff and just above the splash pan.

The tube just goes down the side a bit. You would be better off sticky taping a bit of sponge over the hole to catch residue & cleaning once a year.

While at it, sticky tape a bit of sponge over the hole at the opposite end of the battery. No point doing one & not the other. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
