United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 i6 HSE Auto Santorini Black
Last Edition Prices

I am looking at buying an as late as possible Freelander 2 to replace our 2007 one.

The latest ones are currently £20 k on Autotrader, have prices suddenly rocketed ?

Is £20 too much?

Sounds a lot to me as my 2012 HSE Sd4 at 120k is apparently worth about £7/8k. However, a dealer friend of mine who I consulted about car values a few years ago gave me very sound advice; If you're in the market for a particular vehicle, and you don't intend to profit from it, and intend to keep it for a few years, and you find the right spec with colour and equipment, and you like the vehicle; Don't worry about it's market blue book value..buy the bloody thing and sit back and enjoy it! So what if you've paid over the odds? you'll soon forget that after a year or so. I've had mine now for 7 years and put on 80K miles. Bought it for £22,000 which I thought was steep at the time, but has actually cost me in depreciation about £2,000 a year. Completely irrelevant because I frigging love it and plan to keep it till whoever dies first.

It seems a lot for an 8 year old car, the youngest are this age now. All second hand prices are artificially high at the minute though with supply issues of new cars though.
It would need to be low mileage, mint condition with full history, timing belt etc done.
What else would you buy and for how much though? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Mine was £18k about 15 months ago.
As Paul4751 has said it was about the right car for me at that time.

Don`t be put off by those who say it is too much. It is what it is and as long as your ok with it then its your money you do what you want Thumbs Up

TBH we have brainwashed people who replace a car every 3 yrs or so on the never/never and pay over the odds for it especially if it is an EV. This renewal of cars at 3 yrs contributes to global emissions regardless of what it is.

If you get it enjoy it Very Happy

When we bought our one new, we could have got another one with a lot more extras, but we wanted, white & light interior. The other one was also petrol but it had 19 inch rims. At least we got 18 inch but really wanted 17 inch. So had to make a compromise there.

We are still happy that we in effect paid more for less car.

Just noticed this one on eBay....
It can't possibly be right, can it?

64-plate OY64YNL

Listed by eBay member - dealer in Bournemouth, dcsdorse_16 at £7890.00

Everything seems in order but, that price for a car the same as mine in every detail except the colour??? Surely has missed the '1' from the front of the asking price!

Almost tempted to do a deal.... I've decided to stop being a good example and will now just be a terrible warning.....
2008 TD4HSE - gone but much loved.
2014MY SD4 Metropolis - very much loved.

I am still surprised by how my FL2 Metro retains its value.

I paid about £23k for it at 16000 miles in 2017.

Autotrader now value it at 67000 miles at £12k part exchange or £14k private sale. That's not bad at an annual depreciation of £2k, I can manage that.

However what I find alarming is the expected depreciation on a £50-60k electric 4x4 SUV.

EDIT On re-reading my post I just noticed that I had missed the 1 off my mileage, it should have been 16k miles. ---- This missing the 1 off must be catching! FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)
Metro in its 11th Year of (Extended) LR Warranty / Full LR Service History
(Expensive, but Trouble/Worry free - hopefully?)

This does seem abnormally cheap,

You may be right about the missing '1' in front of price.

Another thing to bear in mind when paying a premium price for a late low mileage car is the insurance valuation, what price you'd receive if it happened to be written off in an accident. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

I put my my 14 plate SD4 auto XS with 71k miles on WBAC and it's come up at about £10,300 and I keep getting reminders to sell it. I paid £18k for it in 2017 with 28k miles. I have been looking for a petrol DS to replace it but the ideal car hasn't come up yet and so next month its going in for a service and MOT so I will probably hang on to it for another six months. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Not quite in the same market but my son has 1996 Porsche 911 993 (last of the air cooled) classic car worth about £70k and it's insured for this value in the event of a write off. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

No eBay feedback

Google search on map, no garage there.

Looks about 99.9 % scam

Yes, it's 100% a scammer. Just check out the other cars they have for sale. All well below market value, all outside different properties.

You are right that no garage appears on google Maps, but the car shows up on the GOV site as Taxed and MOTed.
The MOT History (and Mileage) appears genuine, with last MOT Dec 2022, FULL PASS FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)
FL2 Metropolis SD4 Auto 2014 2017- (16k - 77k+ miles) (MY2015)

The fact that it's taxed and in the hands of a trader is suspicious, the moment the car changes hands there is no tax my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
