United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Barolo Black
Noisy gearbox in 5th and 6th

Hi all,

Hope you can help. My son has just brought home an FL2 GS TD4 - we've bought it between us as a project. It's done approx 110k miles and is in generally good condition. However, having now had the chance to take it out and get it up to speed properly, it makes a noticable noise when in 5th and 6th gear. All of the other gears are quiet and smooth.

Both 5th and 6th engage smoothly, but once the clutch is released they make a whinning noise, which most noticable under load. It has a towbar with twin electrics fitted FYI.

Any thoughts on what might be causing it and how terminal it may or maynot be?

Thanks and regards,

Andy
