I had a bolt snap off in the outback, 2 different ones on different occasions. No fun a 1000km from anywhere. Made the hole a bit bigger in the roof rail & used an M10 as a temporary measure.

When back home I cut a slot in the snapped off M6 with Dremel (Bosch equivalent (which is better)). Unscrewed M6 without problems.

When putting back all the bolts use some teflon plumbing tape.

The M6 bolts are pretty soft so easy to Dremel, probably on purpose so if the roof rack is over stressed for a longer period, they snap before the bodywork snaps.

I used some M6 316 stainless Allen bolts & washers as replacement with teflon tape, as steel doesn't like stainless steel. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!
