Have tested mine like this but apparently a more conclusive test is to measure the resistance using a multimeter. A good pump should be between 5-8 ohms.

Since the pumps uses carbon brushes and were likely sitting around for a while, it's entirely reasonable that the resistance would be high initially due to a thin oxidation layer. Running the pump would rub that off, I'd be completely comfortable using those pumps.

I have just serviced my Gen 3 - 107k miles, its was all working fine but I had the diff out anyway for other reasons. Mine had the original was square section O ring. The filter and oil were pretty clean and I split the hadlex apart from the diff but the pump is properly stuck in the housing and no amount of tapping with a punch and hide mallet on the underside of the flange would remove it, so I left checking of the pump gauze as I was at the point of damaging the pump flange if I hit it any harder to remove it which would be pointless. What was interesting was that fact that the clutch pack outer housing had the letters PG or JG or something like that engraved on it? |
