United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Rimini Red

Thats the PTU, which simply takes the drive from the gearbox, and sends it to the back. The front diff is in the gearbox, and doesn't normally fail. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Looks like I have the same issue on my gearbox so i am taking it out tomorrow to cut the sleeve off.

How hard is it to split the gearbox? looking at it it looks quite straight forward.

It's not very hard, but when you separate the gearbox, one way you can easily remove the crown wheel and the other way you need to remove the gear set first. So when I did it, it was the wrong way first I just put the cover back on with a couple of bolts turned it over took the cover off and removed the crown wheel and cut the sleeve off in the vice. Good luck

Forgot to add, the loctite I used to seal the transmission was very expensive, £40 a tube, I don't know if you can use an equivalent that's cheaper but it's important because an increase in thickness could change the bearing preload

Brilliant, Thanks for the info. I found a russian website via google with pictures of the gearbox dismantled and armed with these, and your tips, I am reasonably confident.

Great tip on the loctite too, I wasn't sure what to use and I too am concerned about changing the bearing pre-load.

Thanks Elvisman!
