Looks nice and rugged. A bit pointless really as you’ll be floating down the river due to the buoyancy of the sealed passenger compartment well before you will feel the benefit of the raised air intake and your starter motor and alternator will be underwater as well.
If you often go wading in muddy water also look out for buildup of dried mud on the intercooler fins. It can be a pain to get off as it repeatedly gets baked on and added to each time you drive through any water with suspended sediment in it.

I remember once passing a row of Suzuki SUVs parked up on the M1 hard shoulder. They had obviously been having great fun on a group off-road session somewhere judging by the copious mud. They also had their bonnets open with lots of steam billowing out. I guess they had not cleared their radiators of the mud and once on the M1 they had all overheated. Jules

So true. A flooded alternator and starter are not what LR was intending, which is why the wading depth is set at 500mm maximum.
The air filter housing also has a hole in the bottom to allow water to drain, should some get drawn in through the wing vent in heavy rain.
However if the bottom of the air filter housing goes under water when wading, then water will simply fill it from below.
It has a pathetic flap to prevent this, but it doesn't work.

I'd personally not cut a bloody big hole in the side of the vehicle, when as you said, the vehicle will be afloat long before the side vent dips under water. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Why does it not utilise the wing side vent? Obvious entry point without cutting more metal. Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

The duct between the side vent and the air filter box is porous.

Certainly under no illusion the FL2 will float before any benefit from the raised air intake can be really experienced. Although I must say, I was really surprised by how poor the ducting was between the side vent and the air box.

It's a little piece of mind the air feed should be a little cleaner and better sealed between the intake and air box. More importantly it gave me another excuse to drill more holes Laughing

I have had the left quarter panel replaced (not my fault). The repairer told me apart from the half a tonne of Central Australia dust that fell onto their workshop floor, the air pipe had pretty much fallen off.

So it might be a simpler solution to simply bash out the air filter between replacements every now and then.
