Check out salvage rebuilds UK on YouTube. They have just posted a video showing the replacement process for the two timing chains on an Evoque with the Ingenium engine. Very interesting  Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.

Yes that was interesting, what a big job. I can imagine that is a big bill for a normal punter.

Despite being a dyed in the wool Land Rover guy for around 30 years, I've followed Salvage Rebuilds as their content is just so good. Watching them rebuild a totalled vehicle is just on another level.From Fiestas to Polo's to Audis and even some crazy projects They're doing a Disco Sport at the moment too, that was stolen recovered and t-packed by the police. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Top guys and I would not hesitate to buy a vehicle from them that they had repaired, despite it's condition when they start them.

Great video.

Very pleased the FL2 doesn't have an Ingenium engine - compare to that changing the timing belt was easy peasy on the SD4.

Also JLR dealerships clearly out source difficult stuff - so cut out the middle man and go to the specialist in the first place.

And that Jaguar Ingenium with a rattling chain at 31k miles - as Hambini (bicycle engineer /fixer) would say "sewer
level engineering"

The timing chain itself commonly stretches or breaks and the plastic guides can break and drop. However we have also found plastic particles from the guides dropping and making their way from the guides over time to the oil pickup." Jules

Whoever designed that engine should be shot. For a vehicle having covered 71,000 miles that's shameful.
We all know timing belts are unreliable if not changed, but at least changing one doesn't involve stripping half the car to bits.
JLR should hang their heads in shame.

One of the main problems with this engine is oil dilution which in turn wears out the timing chains and other components,
if used on short jouneys i.e. the school run as many of them are the DPF does not get hot enough to regenerate and burn off the soot so the extra fuel gets into the oil instead of igniting in the DPF it does not help that the DPF is too far away from the engine so not getting hot unless on a fast long run. Whether JLR has rectified this on later EWOKS or not dunno ? 2013 FL2 XS.

I guess that’s why mechanic are always saying drive it like you stole it, and brake hard so as to keep the rear discs working. No just driving gently.

Trust me I always drove the 2016 D180 DS like I stole it, did 40 miles each way to work 30 of which were on the motorway and she still diluted the oil to such an extent that it was 6mm above maximum every 10,000 miles at which point the oil was always changed.

The 2018 D240 doesn't put fuel in the oil as it has a different exhaust architecture and different software. The passive regeneration which does occur on the D240 doesn't reduce the soot loading in the DPF so in my mind it's a red herring.

Just had the 63k service at 54k, going to do an oil change at 65k and then the full monty timing chain etc at 75k.
Cost wise it's not as bad as it seems, because I am going to drop the £930pa warranty and put the money towards the service cost.
Good news is there is no Haldex or rear differential, bad news is it has Active Driveline and the independent that I will be using hasn't actually serviced one of these before AND it doesn't come up in the online service schedule.
For those who don't have Active Driveline, there is a clutch before the PTU that disconnects the rear propshaft, there are then clutches on each of the rear drive shafts that act like a torque limiting differential, the rear differential casing just holds a crown wheel and pinion. So effectively the active driveline is 3 Haldex type units?

far far from it.
The front is more like a sliding sleeve over two castellated gears.
The rear is more like two multi plate hydraulic clutches.
