A side topic. Decades ago when they introduced electronic toll tags to cross Sydney Harbour Bridge, cars with aerials & other wiring in the windscreen interfered with the toll signal. These cars were getting free tolls on the bridge. It took a very long time before this issue was found out.

I’m pretty sure the frit doesn’t act as an aerial but is transparent to the radio frequencies used by toll tags and gps. GPS signals are going to be especially weak given that they are transmitted from orbit but they don’t contain a lot of data. Toll tags are going to be both receivers and senders but the equipment is going to be used over shorter distances. |

Here's your answer although it is an illegal device in the UK.

Unfortunately no improvement after full overnight charge. Must conclude that the FL2 screen is coated or similar which is blocking the signal. Can't be just the heater element as Garmin works perfectly in our Defender which also has a heated screen. Thanks for all your comments FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey |

Now just wondering whether the £100 ish stock upgrade to the factory Gen 2.1 sat nav is worthwhile?

Has there been a screen manufacture change, you have a 2013 model, I had no problems with a 2012 HSE with the heated screen using a Garmin Nuvi 2009 year of manufacture, is it the original screen? my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Mine is a 2013 facelift model with the revised interior but I don't know if the screen spec changed but someone else on here doesn't have a problem with this model - although they do have a sunroof. Pretty confident mine is the original screen. FL2 SD4 XS 2013 Orkney Grey |

2011 HSE here, with sunroof and original windscreen. Garmin 770 works perfectly in lower right hand corner of screen. |

Doesn't your phone have a standard mapping application? I use Google maps, which is about the best navigation software which is bundled with a phone. It does make a small difference to battery life, but only because the screen is illuminated while the app is running. It's easy to plug in a USB adapter into the power socket though. The sides of the screen don't have heater elements, so is the best place to put a nav. Putting a nav in the centre, close to the glass is the worst place. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate.
