Normal Turbo Sound?

Hello All,

My turbo has recently started making a similar sound toward the end of the video
( https://www.instagram.com/reel/CjdQ5NTOylc/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=) when I put my foot down sometimes.

I’ve had the car for 4 years and don’t remember hearing it till recently.

Is this normal?

Thank you for your help. Regards,
Germplus.

Can you record your actual car making the sound?
Is there a loss of power, screeching sound? Could be a split intercooler hose.
Is there excessive smoke from the exhaust indicating its burning oil? Landrover - turning owners into mechanics since 1948

Well, I was only able to listen to the lawnmower video once because I refuse to have anything to do with Meta, but that sounded like turbo flutter. There was a multi page thread on the subject but I can’t be bothered to search for it. The noise occurs when you suddenly change what you want from the engine, for example, boost to overrun as you aggressively go on and off the throttle probably when changing gear while trying to get some acceleration.

Turbo Noise search gives lots of posts to look at.

Turbo Flutter likewise

I'm not a member of instagram so cannot view it without giving them permission to spy on me, and anyway a description or recording of the noise would be better.

Have you checked for codes or listened closely under bonnet.

Is it mechanical noise like the turbo variable vanes fluttering backwards and forwards, or a whistling type noise like a split hose. FL2 XS SD4 Auto 2010 2012-2017 (21k - 91k miles) (MY2011)

Hello mate.

There is no loss of power. And checked checked all the hose for cut.

Code reader ( iidtool) doesn’t show any code.

The noise comes within seconds when I put my foot down ( about 2krpm) so and disappears.

Will get my mate to record it when he’s around.

Thank you Regards,
Germplus.
