Has this car been in Scotland originally or been near the seaside ?

Car has spent most of it's life on the back lanes of Devon and Somerset. It must be a reasonably common issue for the subframe to rust out, as the breakers don't have any!

So the garage we took it to for welding declined. He wasn't confident he could create a safe repair, so it'll be off the road when the MOT expires next week

One parts specialist reckoned they could get a new subframe, but it's just not worth spending the money on it. We will search for a used subframe and the car will be off the road till then. Depending on how keen I am, I might have a go a replacing it, in which case we could take a risk with trying an Evoque one, but it's not something I would ask a garage to try until someone confirms it will fit.

Follow up, my sister found a welder who was able to repair the subframe in situ. This made it cost effective and the MOT tester was happy

cool a lot better than having to strip it all out , but you do get to derust and paint all over

Why asking if the car has been in Scotland.?
My 2010 car has done 120k all in Scotland and the subframe had only surface rust at MOT.
Bought it with 115 k miles on clock.
I had waited for MOT. I then sent the car to Protect and Preserve who did the whole underside of the car with the Dinitrol system.
Cost me £750. hopefully will be worth it as i think this will be my last car. 81 next birthday. Jim A
