Yes it's something to do with the aircon compressor which is belt driven off the engine so it varies with engine speed. If you turn the fan off then the aircon also stops automatically. |

Yes but use a sharp drill bit, the cage may be brittle. I used the ceramic silicone spray, one good spray about three years ago |

I had the whine that varied with revs, though it was something on the engine or tranny but it was the cabin fan... turning the cabin air off makes it go away instantly, that's how you can tell.
