After many many miles of towing our caravan around this year the freelander let me down on a hill in Somerset. Luckely I managed to crawl the waggon to a safe place off the road - the isuzu dealership.
So as I was powering up the long hills I heard a pop noise and then loss of power and loads of smoke pouring out of the exhaust.
I guessed straight away that the turbo downhose had just let go.
And on inspection it was that. Lucky for me I had a spare hose in the boot. Called the breakdown guys and 40mins later after a struggle from mechanic (John) the hose was on and ready to go.
I would first like to say that John from Riverside Garage (Ottery St Mary) is a top guy.

The last time the freelander let me down was the Crank Position sensor. And again I had that as a spare in the boot.
So in both cases when asked the breakdown guys is it repairable both times it was a no - you need to get a tow to a garage.

So for a total of £25 for both of these parts - I would highly recomend carrying them.
Any other common parts worth keeping in the boot?

We’re heading away for a week to the lakes this weekend so hoping my recently changed hoses will survive but just in case I have a recently purchased Crank Position sensor in the boot 😂 🤞🤞. Glad all turned out ok for you!

Apart from a Crank Sensor and two 10mm spanners in the glove box, I have a stack of spares in the shed, you have just reminded me to put a roll of duck tape in the glove box.

I keep a spare crank sensor, as I've already had to changed 2 at the roadside, and a 10mm spanner to remove and refit the bolt. I also have my IID and Icarsoft I930 next to the spare wheel.
I also keep a lithium starter, and a 12 Volt tyre inflator, and digital pressure gauge. Some gloves to keep my hands clean while working on the car at the roadside, and a boot mat which will double up as a floor mat to keep my clothes clean. I also have a pack of fuses, a roll of black insulation tape and 20 feet of 5 Ton nylon rope just in case.
There's a lot of extra space in the boot, which is ideal for hiding some essentials away from normal car luggage. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.
