I don’t know if I have been unlucky but I have had the dreaded bearing failure at 90000 miles. I was under the impression that Land Rover had upgraded the diff bearing on later FL2’s?? Booked in for a reconditioned diff next Wednesday at Derby 4x4.

If anyone needs a decent Indy garage in Derbyshire, I have found these guys to be the best in the area. Helpful, realistic prices and excellent at fault diagnostics on all Land Rover/Range Rover. I have found most Land Rover specialist’s aren’t that great with Freelander’s-perhaps because they are more reliable than their brethren-but these guys have diagnosed and dealt with every fault I have thrown at them over the last 10 years👍

Most JLR dealerships wont have seen a FL2 in years - its an obsolete model as far as they are concerned.

Is your Derby Indy fitting a rear diff with an uprated pinion bearing - like the one Bell Engineering offer ? Jules

The bearing on my 64 plate sd4 went in 2018 but thankfully repaired and upgraded under warranty. I do believe that the steel used in the bearings on some of the later models, notwithstanding larger bearing, was substandard and made in India. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.
