Injector fault.

Hello

I have a 2014 Freelander diesel. I have owned this since 2014 and have had it regularly serviced by a main dealer and an independent garage. The car has covered 45000 miles from new. A new battery was fitted a year ago.

Earlier this year the car went into limp mode on the motorway. I managed to make it to the services where I plugged in my OBD reader and read the fault code (Po261 Cyl1 injector low voltage). I cleared the fault and drove home without any problems.

The problem reoccurred 700 miles later. Same as last time I cleared the fault code and drove home without any problems. I took the car to my usual garage who diagnosed a faulty fuel injector. Number 1 injector was replaced.

The problem came back after 1400 miles and as usual I cleared the fault and the car drove faultlessly for another 500 miles when the same thing happened.

What could the problem be, have you experienced any similar temporary faults?

All suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks in anticipation.

Did they replace injector No1 or injector No4? They're easy to mix up, as the cylinders are back to front compared to most other cars. Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

Injector

Good point.

I will have to verify this with the garage who did the work. I presume they would know. I have used them for thirty or more years.

To clarify injector position: standing in front of the vehicle looking at the windscreen, is number one cylinder on my left?

Thanks

BJ

The no.1 is the cylinder towards the gearbox.

No, the belt drive end (left when looking from the front) is No4. Piston No1 is gearbox end. Bonkers I know, but that's the way it is on this engine. Thumbs Up Hyundai Ioniq 5 Ultimate. The family car.

did they test the injector?did they check the wiring?did they swap injectors around to confirm the faulty one?i doubt it.so now take it back and get them to do a proper job!then they might have to test the relevant ecu.

Injector

They don't have the equipment to test injectors off the vehicle. Nor do they have equipment to test wiring or ecu's etc.

Because it is an intermittent fault, they had to start somewhere and I agreed to replacing the injector.

My thoughts now are:

1. Has the correct injector been replaced?
2. Is the new injector faulty?

I could go out in the vehicle now and drive for hundreds of miles without a fault. Most annoying.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll keep you posted.

BJ

If they don't have the ability to swap one injector for another and test it again, then they're best avoided.
Sounds like they are clueless or can't be bothered to do the job properly.
It's more likely that they fitted the new injector in the wrong place, than the new one being faulty.
